On 25th April 2010 our U12 boys travelled to Chessington & Hook FC to take part in the County Cup final against Esher youth. This is the first time in the history of GSFC that a team has reached the final of this prestigious competition.
The match was very tight, the standard of football from both sides was very impressive. Nil-Nil at half time left the spectators wondering what the teams would need to do to get a break through. Second half performances were again impressive with a tremendous work rate from both sides, however it was clear that Saints had the edge andwere on top. Then to the delight of the travelling crowd Saints scored early on in the second half. This was never going to be a high scoring game, Saints had a couple of other opportunities with near misses, clearly the team on top, however with a few minutes to go Esher put the ball in the back of the net, leaving the Saints crowd stunned and the Esher crowd cheering wildly, which all subsided quickly as it was soon apparent the linesman had given offside – phew! The last few minutes were very nervous ones for the crowd but the team were splendid, increasing their work rate, not giving the opposition any space on the ball, Team Captain Dudley Pearn (Centre Back) organised the ‘So Solid Crew’ at the back with great maturity, talking to the team all the time.
A fantastic performance by the whole team saw them U12 COUNTY CUP WINNERS 2010 at full time.
Congratulations to Donovan Chislett & John Harris who have managed this team for the past 2 seasons – a great achievement.
