Disability Team

Footballers in Surrey were celebrating today following a £5,000 grant awarded by the Football Foundation, the Country’s largest sports charity.

The funding boost will allow Guildford Saints Football Club to kick start its new project, the launching of a pan-disability football team.

The Football Foundation is dedicated to revitalising the grass roots of the game, constructing modern football facilities, developing football as a force for social cohesion and as a vehicle for education in communities throughout the country. Funded by the Premier League, the Football Association and the Government, the Football Foundation is the nation’s largest sports charity with a £40m budget going straight into the heart of football.

Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation said: “We warmly congratulate Guildford Saints and Surrey County FA for their hard work and dedication in securing this award.

Football is our national game and the Foundation is investing money from the Premier League, The FA and Government into the grass roots to help give everyone the opportunity to play it and stay healthy.
“This exciting new project is the latest example of how we are working with key partners to create a level playing field across the country and opening up access to sports.”

Alex Forbes, Chairman of Guildford Saints FC said: “The work that the Football Foundation does is absolutely fantastic, the support that they give to clubs like Guildford Saints is crucial as it gives us the opportunity to launch new initiatives as the case here with our pan-disability football team. This of course not only benefits the club but also the local community in Guildford.”
