U10 Swallows
A fantastic cup win today at the Simon Hedley festival. Our first silverware! Well deserved as few teams could match the boys’ passing, pace or desire.
The cup run was as follows:
Group Stage:
1-0 win against Farnham Utd Lions
(Thumping shot from Toby)
0-0 against Farncombe
(Another frustrating game against an old foe which defend deep and seem to cancel us out. Roll on 9v9 and the offside rule!)
2-0 win against Fleet Town Cobras
(A dominant result with an own goal from Toby’s powerful cross and a lovely goal from Ewan coming in from the left)
Quarters:
1-0 win against Abbey Ranges
(A solid performance against a good team with a great solo goal from Viggo through the middle).
Semis:
0-0 draw against Byfleet Village Panthers, which the boys won on penalties. We rode our luck a little in the early stages against a speedy team but came back strong and missed two good chances at the end. We lost count but think we won 8-7! Highlights were 8 fantastic penalties scored from our boys and two great saves from Ben W, one of which was harshly disallowed for coming off his line!
Final:
1-0 win against Fleet Town Cobras who we beat in the group stages. A nervy game until Ewan went through in the 8th minute to seal the victory.
All in all then, the boys were well deserved winners.
GSFC U7’s had a fantastic run in the Simon Hedley Tournament Saturday 7th May, narrowly missing out on being Champions – but they are still Champions to us.
