Plate Final: Against Meadow Sports Colts in a 12 minute match. It took us a minute to settle into our rhythm before we dominated both possession and territory, with corner after corner reigning in. Then, in the 8th minute, came a hammerblow of a freak goal for Meadow Sports totally against the run of play. It took real guts from our team to fight back from this but fight back we did. Ben H overcame injury and his fresh legs helped in the build-up of another team goal, which finished with Jake A, our ‘through ball king’ all afternoon, slipping it to Jake C in space who slotted it home to make it 1-1. We continued to press but ran out of time to find a winner. Sadly, it was not to be on this occasion and we lost the penalty shoot out despite Toby’s best efforts.
Leaving with a Plate Runners-Up trophy was a magnificent achievement and the boys should be very proud, particularly as a number of teams in the group stages were in higher pots than us last year. We stepped up and punched above our weight. A big shout out to Charlie, Toby, Ben W and Viggo who took on the bulk of the defensive and goalkeeping duties, especially in the absence of Morgan, Adam and Oscar who often give us such support in those positions. A big hooray to Jake A and Thomas who played a huge part in our success as well – I am glad they enjoyed the experience. Thanks fans for your exemplary behaviour and support – it was like having a tenth player out there. I hope you all enjoyed the nice-ish weather.
After a shaky start GSFC U7’s performed well at the GPR festival today. Won 4, Drew 2. An amazing 10 goals scored with none conceded. A good team performance.
