GSFC is aiming to provide an additional opportunity for players to develop their game through introducing our own academy programme. It is not just for the ‘most gifted’ players it’s available to everyone with the desire and determination to improve. GSFC believes that every individual should have the opportunity to fulfill their potential through creating an appropriate learning environment. Given the right coaching children have the chance to succeed.

Help GSFC support George Abbot Planning Application.

George Abbot school is proposing to build a 61m x 40m (training-sized) astro pitch
which the school desperately needs to be able to offer both curriculum sport, as the
existing playing fields and tarmac courts become waterlogged, and after school sport as
the pitch will be floodlit. Currently after school sport has to stop during the dark winter
months.

The facility will also benefit community club users enabling children to play football
locally and take part in hockey training for which there is a lot of demand. We have links
with Guildford Saints FC, Surrey Spartans hockey club and a new lacrosse club which
wants to set up in Guildford and we are currently talking to Burpham FC.

We have had widespread support from National governing bodies, clubs, the PTA etc but
are now encountering local opposition, particularly to the floodlights and the noise.

I am attaching a Question and Answer sheet which aims to answer queries raised about
the project.

We would be very grateful if Boxgrove parents, hopefully many of whose children will
benefit, could help. We need their support by writing to the local councillor to show that
there is wide community support for the project.

We need to emphasize that this is a project that will benefit thousands of children,
is sensibly sized, being one third of a full-sized pitch, will have modern directional
floodlighting found all around Guildford much nearer to housing e.g. Merrow Tennis
Club, Pit Farm Tennis Club, RGS, Kings College, is on the existing grass field and
therefore used for sport in any event. 10 m floodlights are needed to ensure that there
is enough light to play hockey but this height is not higher than existing buildings,
including the neighbouring cricket centre and therefore not out of keeping.

We have just made a concession that the weekdays hours will be 9pm rather 10pm as
previously requested and there will be no floodlight use at all at weekends.

To ensure that no further restrictions are made, please could parents write to their local
councillor urging support for our Planning Application: 11/P/02257. Having received
objections from a small local group, some councillors fear that support for the project
will lose them votes – we need to show that the reverse is the case. We would like them
to be aware of the massive local support for George Abbot School from the parents of
children who attend and who will attend in the future.

This support is needed as soon as possible and especially before March 13th when the
Councillors will make their final decision.

Emma Wild (MSc Sports Injury Therapist) provides support for sports teams and individual athletes through the assessment, identification and treatment of injuries.

Emma utilises a variety of joint mobilisation techniques, soft tissue mobilisation with the development of sport specific rehabilitation programmes which are designed to increase strength, correct muscle imbalances, increase flexibility, joint proprioception and muscular and cardiovascular endurance to return athletes to their sport.
Emma also utilises pre season screening to identify poor or incorrect movement patterns which are a result of muscle strength and flexibility imbalances. These imbalances will cause other areas of the body to overcompensate resulting in insufficiency and predispose the athlete to injury. Identification of theses imbalances allows Emma to develop individual and sport specific pre-habilitation programmes to correct movement patterns and muscle imbalances for injury prevention.
